Located in Jefferson County, Shenandoah Junction's name refers to the junction of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad and Norfolk and Western Railway. At the bottom of the hillside near where these tracks cross are the foundations of the old Shenandoah Junction passenger station (near 1st street). Just up the tracks from this location is Duffields train station, the second oldest surviving train station in the United States was recently purchased by an area nonprofit organization formed with the hope of turning it into a museum. Duffields Station was built in 1839.
