Passenger service on the Shenandoah Valley Line was provided by Class U 4-6-0s. Class E and E1 4-6-2s replaced the Class Us.  This all changed in 1914 when the Class E & E1s were replaced by the more powerful Class K "Mountain Type" 4-8-2s.
